self binding flannel blanket

I'm putting my new sewing machine to good use despite my constant lack of seeing skills... Here is my first project-a self binding flannel baby blanket for my coworker who is due in February. Instead of quilting the batting in, I decided to tack it with the letter v and "Val" for baby Valerie.

I always meant to make one for Chloe but she is almost three and I still haven't gotten my act together.  I figured this time around I better just get it done or else it might not happen.

Superheros just seemed appropriate on a blanket from us.

One of the other Captain's wives recently found out that she has Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  She has two little boys- one is 2 and one is three or four months.  The families at SOI are trying to support them by bringing them meals and watching their kids but we live on the opposite end of base and have a newborn so... that is probably not going to happen, so instead I made her a quilt.  All the cammies were donated by guys from Jenny's husbands company and have been all over the world including iraq, afghanistan, hawaii, etc.

It's hard to see but if you look closely you can see the heart.
